I think I just died laughing.

Seriously, has anyone HEARD the newest Berryz single in its entirety?!

Okay, so.  The new crap single from Berryz….  It’s further proof that C-ute does laps around them.  Anyway, the Berryz girls gave an effort, and… this is what I have to say.

1) 付き合っているのに片思い (Tsukiatteru no ni Kataomoi; Even Though We’re Dating, it’s Unrequited Love)
My god.  The PV for this totally didn’t fit.  This fits with the retro-styled songs Berryz has been regularly churning out.  This pattern worries me–I love the style, but it makes them so much of a…novelty group.  Something tells me that this song should really be a ballad, but someone at UFA was like “OH NOES WE NEED A FIGHTING POSE WA DATE JA NAI TYPE SINGLE~!!!” and we got this crappy-ass thing.  The song is….. okay.  It’s too energetic, so it doesn’t fit the title or the PV.  There’s not enough Tokunaga Chinami for me, but I get lots of Sudou Maasa! ♥  Momoko decided it’d be “cute” to use that helium voice.

Repeat after me, Momoko: HELIUM IS A NO-NO.  This is not anime.  You are a real idol, girl, and a real person at that.  That voice might cut it in Buono! but not in Berryz.

Too much Risako, too much Natsuyaki.

Other than that, it’s… an okay song.  I’ll never like it, but….

02. 我ら!Berryz仮面 (Warera! Berryz Kamen; We are! Berryz Kamen)
The levels of awesome in this song….  My god.

First of all, it’s been forever since Tsunku gave us a super-sentai song.  And THAT IS WHAT THIS IS.  I LOVE it.  It’s so weird and random and funky.

Besides that, the leads are… Kumai Yurina and Sudou Maasa, with the second tier being Tokunaga Chinami and Shimizu Saki.  YES.  THAT’S RIGHT.  SUGAYA, NATSUYAKI AND TSUGUNAGA HAVE NO SOLO LINES.

The song itself is just random and fun.  There’s nothing bad I can think of to say about it.  They sound like they’re having a lot of fun singing–and Maasa sounds incredible.  There’s something very…. sentai and cowboy-ish about it.  Probably the line “bibou RENJAA Berryz Kamen”…~!

Anyway.

The song kicks major ass.  Why wasn’t THIS the A-side?

Oh, yeah.  Because Sugaya Risako didn’t have her face all over it.

….. Okay, the swipe at Risako was mean, but.   I like Warera! Berryz Kamen at least 10x better than that other song.  Listening to the instrumental, by the way, I hear… what sounds like Inaba Atsuko.  Yeah.

Anyway, if you disclude the kataomoi song, this single would be great.  Unfortunately, the kataomoi song is the A-side and it’s hard to ignore.  Therefore, I award this single, Berryz  and Tsunku no points and may God have mercy on their souls.

Completely disagree. Tsukiatteru no ni Kataomoi was a great song and the video was great too. There has never been a Berryz song I haven’t liked but I’ve hardly liked any C-ute ones. And Momo’s voice is great because it’s something that sets her apart from all the other voices that tend to run together and she sounds great (especially live.) I do agree that Warera! Berryz Kamen was a great song though. And it makes sence that Saki Maasa and Chinami would be the leads since it was a B-side which is where they get most of their solo lines.
